who knew that you could just disregard those stupid red light camera tickets without worrying about the consequences? i never would've guessed that paying the fine was voluntary rather than mandatory (only in the city proper of LA).

what's more, it's highly likely that the red light program will be phased out at the end of this month. i say good riddance - it was just a cash grab from the very start.

Drivers can disregard red-light camera tickets in L.A.

Motorists who get tickets under the city's controversial red-light camera program can shrug them off, Los Angeles officials agreed Monday...the tickets are part of a "voluntary payment program" without sanctions for those who fail to submit fines.

Motorists outraged at paying ‘voluntary’ red-light camera tickets

City officials this week revealed a dirty little secret about red-light camera fines in L.A.: Offenders don't have to pay them. Officials said that paying the fines was optional and the city had no legal power to force people to pay...it's no consolation for the tens of thousands who have dutifully paid their tickets.

Which proves you don't have to be a celebrity like OJ or Robert Blake to get away with a crime in LA

only in the LA area? I only ask because a coworker of mine got one from running a red light in Vista, CA. It was $450! She paid it.

Red light runners should lose their licenses. They are a hazard and need to be riding the bus.

I agree for the most part, however, they've also shortened the yellow lights in Beverly Hills/Hollywood, so that it's almost impossible NOT to either come to a screeching halt or go through a red light. And then they bill you $496.

There's one light, in particular, that's pretty famous for their 1 or 2 second yellow light.
