I have lived in many major cities: Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Barcelona, Rome, and Tokyo, to name a few. Los Angeles is by far, filled the most most superficial, pretentious, and fake people I have ever met in my entire existence. Does LA have sprawling and exemplary art, food, beaches, music, nightlife... etc? Absolutely. Unfortunately, no amount of glitter that the city adds could ever make up for the fact that many (not all) people here, are soulless sheep. What is even MORE unfortunate, is that the people who have this attitude, for the most part, are not native Californians. The people who migrate here, and adopt that **** poor, Hollywood, shallow attitude, give the natives of LA a bad name. It is purely because they have something to prove or feel the need to adopt this shallow attitude to fit in with everyone else. Unfortunately for the people who are from California originally, there are more people who are not from LA, living in LA. To be blunt, and put it plainly.. the majority of the people in LA suck. It's sad, because if not for that, LA would be almost perfect.

P.S. Get some REAL f***in pizza.
I really which you had typed that last part first. Would have stopped reading right there.

And did you seriously just suggest there are more transplants than native born in Los Angeles? That is false. Transplants such as yourself do give the city a bad name, with all the posturing and complaining you do. On that we agree.

PS: Food on the East Coast? Ridiculously overrated.

Although someone might say Hi, or how are you, the attitude is that people their are just plain shallow and don't care and some people have the biggest most annoying ego's. Now you might say that is everywhere, but in L.A and parts of So Cal, it seems like it is MORE SATURATED with these type of people, always acting like they are this and that living in a fantasy. I think it's a nice city, but it lives and thrives off shallowness, fakeness, glamour and things to me that aren't real. What are your thoughts?
What are my thoughts? My thoughts are that you've never lived in LA.

Yeah the pizza here is fine. No worse than any East Coast city and better than 99 percent of the rest of the country. For some reason NYers forget that tons of them migrate here ever year, and some of those open pizza places. They didn't forget their recipes and technique upon departing from JFK.

Wait... this thread isn't about pizza?

Why is it that people who hang out in West LA or the trendiest enclaves complain when they get backstabbed by a wannabe actor or musician?

I get sick of them saying that LA is this or that based on their small experience with people trying to make it in Hollywood. Quit hanging out at those places with those types?

If you venture past La Brea you'll find an entire city that's unfazed by the Hollywood BS. People are genuine and there's a better arts scene downtown with people who truly care about their art without trying to fit in a scene or care about breaking into the industry. I've had more genuine normal experienced in burbank than I've ever had in my life visiting and living in other cities.

I always get the impression that people with these hang ups who call their little group in WeHo, or Brentwood or Santa Monica "LA" are people who just got burned by someone or got cast out of a group of wannabes trying to break into the industry.

Yes, if you're talking about the cleaning staff, maybe? Santa Monica, Venice, downtown, all the way up to Burbank - fake fake fake shallow all the way, LA is just awful in terms of being filled with self-entitled materialistic elitist wannabes. Maybe the amount of those people is the minority, like 40% or something - but that's still easily double anywhere else in the country

That's because most people in Burbank don't think they are 'cool' , but a lot of people in WeHo, Brentwood or Santa Monica think they are hot stuff.

You could be describing NYC in this post and I wouldn't bat an eye. Get your head out of your butt. NYC is the city with a reputation for self-entitled elitists, and people are materialistic wherever you go. This is America. Materialism is more important than oxygen. And as far as being fake, look at how many neighborhoods and burroughs in NYC have been overrun with hipsters. Pot, kettle, black. NYC is just as fake and shallow as anywhere else, but at least LA isn't so effing rude.

I knew this thread would turn into an LA vs NY thread, or more generally, LA vs. America

Blake way to sound elitist yourself! The cleaning staff are the only genuine people?

Burbank is not elitist. Its a very middle class city with a lack of pretentiousness that you see in Santa Monica. Sherman Oaks maybe. But everywhere else its normal and relatively friendly.
