I live in San Diego and I know this thread is about what Angelenos think of San Diego, but I thought I would offer the reverse perspective, because much of that reverse perspective has already been offered secondhand.

Believe it or not, I don't obsess about Los Angeles. It usually never even crosses my mind except in one particular situation where I absolutely do obsess about it. When I drive to northern California I plan my entire trip around how and when to get through Los Angeles. I view LA as if it were a searing, untrackable desert, where one wrong move could leave you trapped to die on the freeway in a perpetual traffic jam.

That is how I see Los Angeles, as a traffic jam. There may be a city somewhere off those freeways, but I've never bothered to venture out there to find it.

SD = sleepy surfer town + retired + military town

Although it is a nice town, It's just too white bread for me, and boring, and not a whole lot going on.

They use the arguments less traffic cleaner air, yada yada yada, but the fact remains that people in LA never compete with SD, as SD does with LA.

Although personally I'd live in the outskirts of LA such as southbay/lb not in the city itself, but I'd enjoy all the things living nearby.

An SD resident's name for any place outside the SD County lines: "L.A."

SD person A: "Where you going?"
SD person B: "San Clemente."

Later that evening:

SD person C: "Where's SD person B?"
SD person A: "In L.A."

That happens in Kern County too. "LA" includes OC and the IE as well.

I've been hearing that "L.A." thing for years, but I will say this: The ones who say it the most tend to be from SD bro country. So yeah, you're right.
