This is an apartment in Compton. Is crime really this low in this part of Compton?

-people don't live in Compton because it's low crime
-are you sure the agency in charge of Compton (LA County Sheriff, right?) even reports to said website?

-you could always drive by and check it out, and ask for a showing of course
-you could also get in touch with local law enforcement and see what they think

-it looks almost bucolic

Doesn't that just list reported crimes over a specific recent time period? Maybe no crime during the reporting period, but more before? Or maybe one can't generalize about a large area. Why do you ask? Do you live there? Thinking of living there? Thinking of investing?

BTW, Dave, "drive by" may not be exactly what OP want to say they plan to do, especially when talking to the police.

It does take a while for any crimes to make it onto the map, so the previous week's data is usually imomplete. You need to go back a month or two to get more complete data.

Crime in Compton has been going down consistently since the 1990s, but, it is still comparatively high, and while gangs don't rule the streets like in the 1990s, there are still gang neighborhoods there.

If you compare the 90220 with, for example, West LA 90025, you see a lot more car theft and assault.

Compton has pretty neighborhoods. The housing is of the same construction as neighboring cities more or less.

As a general rule, if you are looking for an apartment in a rougher area, you want your apartment to be in the middle of a neighborhood and away from a major street. Crime on residential streets is usually lower than crime on major streets. Thus, I'd avoid any apartment on a street as busy as Alondra.

my guess is the OP works for this complex and is spamming the idea that it has low crime.

If you go to the crime maps at LATimes.com, they have a disclaimer about how cities covered by the Sheriff's department provide very delayed data, so it may not show up for a long time. This is one of the rare cases where the LAPD does something more efficient than LAC Sheriffs. In addition, cities with their own police forces may not even participate in this program, so you won't see any crime reported publicly in those areas. Last time I checked the Burbank PD did not participate in the crime mapping.

It is certainly true, for one my family member lived around that area, and for many years it has not shown to be a dangerous place to live. Actually crime is everywhere, but mostly need to watch each other for safety and protection.

"Drive by" is different than "drive-by", and nowhere in my post did I recommend they tell anybody (including the cops) they were doing so.

There are streets in Compton and the surrounding areas that are quite nice & quiet. I have a friend who bought a house near there and I have visited a few times and it is a nice street filled with homeowners who maintain their properties. She had to be there alone with her son while her husband was deployed and she felt OK being there. To me it was strange but they had grown up in the surrounding area and were used to the area. The impression I have gotten from the times I have visited has also backed this up. I don't know how that specific street is but as a PP said, you don't want to be on a main street or any street with apartment buildings.
