No. Not at all. Both very different.

BASIC DIFFERENCES:
Honolulu is on the Pacific ocean in the tropics and is the largest city in the state of Hawaii (with nearly 400,000 people). It is also has high-rises and is the state capitol.

Monterey Park is 35 miles from the Pacific Ocean, not in the tropics, and a small city with about 60,000 people. M.P. is mostly low-rise & suburban.

DEMOGRAPHIC DIFFERENCES:
Montery Park is about 66% Asian/Asian-American but nearly 50% of the TOTAL POPULATION in M.P. is Chinese/Chinese-American. There are virtually ZERO native Hawaiins.

Honolulu is about 54% Asian/Asian-American. But Japanese-Americans and Filipino-Americans are the biggest groups. Only about 10% of Hononlulu's pop. claims Chinese ancestry. And there are still SOME native Hawaiins in Honolulu (though they are vanishing at just over 3% of the total).

There is a reason it's called Little Taipei instead of Little Honolulu.

Taiwanese immigrants don't really live in Monterey Park. They live in Arcadia, San Marino, Walnut, Rowland Heights, and Diamond Bar--basically the wealthier east SGV areas.

MP is mainly full of 1st gen and 1.5 gen families from China, Vietnam, and maybe Hong Kong.

True enough but the classic moniker is / was Little Taipei.

Monterey Park is mostly new immigrant Chinese, largely lower to middle class, or older immigrant Chinese/Chinese-Americans.

Not as many Taiwanese these days, the "Little Taipei" nickname was from the 70s and 80s when the population was much higher.

Honolulu is much more "Asian" than Chinese, with more Japanese/Korean and fewer Chinese than Monterey Park, not to mention native Hawaiians which are very different from those who live in Monterey Park. My anecdotal experience in both cities is that the cultures are very different.
