Since you already know that Claremont is good, don't look any farther out. No need to complicate things. You already have Claremont, possibly LaVerne, and something may still pop up in Glendora.

There is not a "bad" area in Claremont.

It has a small town charm like Pasadena, CA...only smaller.

The area of town closest to Claremont Village and the Claremont Colleges (Pomona College, Pitzer College, etc) is characterized with more historic, turn of the century (early 1900's that is) homes. If you live in this area you can often walk to the village (for a meal or a carton of milk, etc).

The northern part of town is more "modern" suburbia with homes built from the 1970's/1980's onward. If you live in this area you will most likely drive to get anywhere.

Gandalara thank you so much for all the information...I don't know why I thought San Dimas was larger than the other areas...I think I have managed to confuse myself, obviously... I appreciate all the input! We are able to spend about $2,500 to 3,000 for a lease. We would like a 3 - 4 bedroom and I agree with BRinSM about rancho cucamonga being too far...I found it on the map...Thank you all so much

The two threads (the one in LA, and the one in IE) have been merged.

Claremont is in Los Angeles County, and since OP is focusing much of their search on Claremont, San Dimas, Glendora, etc, we'll keep it here.

OP, if you have a specific question about a city in San Bernardino or Riverside Counties, feel free to post or search a thread there. But, this one belongs here in LA.

Thanks.

If you look in San Dimas, the area near Bonita Ave has a very small-town feel. Also, Bonita Unified is a good school district. Bonita Unified School District - Home

IMO, any of those cities would be fine (Claremont, San Dimas, Glendora, La Verne), they are all nice.

Claremont is known as "The city of trees & PhDs" - very green and academic, if you lean that way. However, there are some "worse" areas of town. What is known as south Claremont (generally south of Arrow Hwy) does not have as good of a reputation as areas to the north. The southern part is also closer to the 10 freeway and Pomona. With your budget, you should be able to find homes for lease in the nicer parts of Claremont.

Like Rancho Cucamonga, Covina is farther out as well and frankly, not as nice as the cities along the 210 freeway.

Don't know where you guys plan to stay while you're visiting, but there are a couple quaint/nice hotels near the Village/downtown area of Claremont. Howard Johnson just right off of the 10 freeway is also pretty good.

Thanks Mllex...I will let the realtor know what area we would like to look in for Claremont. Thanks for all the advice. We have narrowed our search for homes to Claremont, LaVerne, and San Dimas. I will let you know what we decide. Looking foward to moving to your area

The areas north of Foothill are more upscale..

Some pockets south of the railroad may be borderline sketchy but not really that 'bad' by any standards.

If you're not particularly picky, you can't go wrong with any area in the Claremont city limits.
