We also have a 17 month old baby.

Looking for any way to avoid horror commutes and also get access to daycare.

I was considering the AMTRAK service that runs between Union station and Irvine. Unfortunately my wifes job is about a half hour walk or a 7 minute car drive from union station. I can bike to my workplace from the irvine station.

Thanks for any tips!

there are additional subway trains that run from union station to other parts of downtown (red line and gold line). there are also a lot of circulator buses that run from union station to different parts of downtown.

Will look into the local commuter trains too. What is a good place to rent at? If the train is useful I was thinking of Fullerton. If the trains not very useful then maybe the Long beach area..Either way the commute into LA is the problem.
