Just wondering how the dating scene is for single girl like me, mid twenties and working in finance...not modeling or acting. I don't want to date would-be actors. I just want to date normal guys. Do they exist in LA. Are there any men that are smart, nice looking and have a career and still single? I'm good looking, but not a model so I am wondering if the competition for singles is too much. I don't want to have to compete against beauty queens. thanks for your advice everyone.

This would depend on where you plan to live. West Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Beach communities, beverly hills, melrose area, hollywood. You will find different people etc.

You should be fine though, everyone is not an actor in Los Angeles.

I like santa monica. However, when I went to visit a male friend, he said I was the most "real" and "down to earth" girl he has met in a long time. WOW! That really did not give me a good feeling about LA. I don't want to have a problem meeting nice down to earth people.

wengirl....LA is the last place you want to be. From everything I hear SoCal men treat women pretty crappy, and are arrogant and have a "god-like" complex. Plus there are gorgeous looking women everywhere down here. Stick with San Francisco.

How about providing a picture, I'd like to know what "good looking but not a model" looks like. I'm sure people here can tell you how you compare to SoCal girls.

For a straight woman (or a gay man) LA is paradise. The odds are slanted in your favor.

Yes, there are a great number of normal guys in L.A. You won't have anything to worry about. You'll be fine.

I highly doubt all available men in LA are all looking for 'beauty queens' and 'actress' types. I'm sure there are quite a few 'normal' LA guys to go around. Just think of the advantage you will have...smart, attractive, great job with potential, single and in the prime of your life!! I think working on your self esteem is most important here...and finding the LA guy who is lucky enough to date YOU!! I'm sure there will be plenty of career driven and successful guy types in LA that are not actors/models etc.
Focus on networking within your industry when you arrive...through work, colleagues, etc. Or through alumni groups, meet-up groups, etc...

Would you say the same thing about NYC? Because that's where this girl is coming from. She can't get a date there apparently. You think she'll have an easier time of it in LA?
