Yes, Studio City is near film studios and portions of Ventura Blvd are walkable with boutiques/restaurants but overall in my view, this is still a very suburban area.

Pasadena may not have an "LA vibe" but it is very walkable, distintive in character, and has plenty of nightlife options (though not as "hip" as Hollywood), etc.
How many movie studios are in Studio City? I know of one CBS television studio (not the big CBS Television City near Farmer's Market), but can't think of the others. Warner Brothers is certainly a bigger movie studio, but that's Burbank. I think only a non-L.A. native would think of suburban and non-suburban in such stark terms as OP seems to. Southern California is one huge urban area, some parts less urban than others (usually further out). You have some good selections above. Now, an exploratory trip is the only way to go.
