It happened to me twice last yr and it was always after using sketchy gas stations in the Inland Empire. What's really annoying was the last time, when I was headed to Vegas & the CC company left a message on my home number (which is a machine--so 20th century i know!) of possibly fraudulent charges and then promptly canceled my card. And unfortunately it was the only card i brought on my trip. FML

Not uncommon. I've had to replace my credit card twice, and both times it was after a vacation...and traveling in LA. There are unscrupulous businesses (especially in touristy areas) or employees that will scan your credit card and sell. Both times it happened to me the fraudulent transactions were not online, but retail sales with someone using a fake credit card. That only happens when your card was physically scanned.
