Hello everyone -

I have applied for several undergraduate internships for Disney/ABC Entertainment Group and am planning to move to the Los Angeles/Burbank area in the spring of 2012. I'm being optimistic that I will get in (my status shows "in progress" which is a good sign meaning I will be contacted for an interview on two positions) and am looking at apartments/homes in the Burbank area. Any suggestions on a safe area? Also my budget is around $1,200/month.

(Also has anyone else gone through the undergraduate internship for Disney or ABC Studios and have any insight or suggestions? Thank you!)

there isn't really an "unsafe" area in Burbank. A lot of people starting out end up in the complex on 1200 Riverside Drive, they have studios and temporary housing. From what I hear though the rent has skyrocketed in that complex.

What is your budget?

Thanks for your reply! My budget is around $1200. That may be a little low but not sure yet what the pay is for the internship. Even if I don't get accepted into the Spring program, I plan to move to Burbank by May 2012 and continue to search for jobs in the area (or other internships).

North Hollywood would be less boring, if you stick to the Arts district it is pretty safe. You can take the subway into Hollywood and Downtown too for weekends and such.

But yeah, Burbank is really family oriented and safe. I would just be bored to tears as a college age kid. (even now I would be)

Thanks munchitup for the tips! (btw I'm not in my 20's although I wouldn't mind turning back time but I returned to college late in life - I'm in my 50's ) My son lives in Culver City and recommended Burbank area for me and then I started looking into internships and jobs related to Disney and applied for these internships at ABC Entertainment Group. I don't want to do the College Program internship at Disneyland but wouldn't mind living in Garden Grove area (don't think I'd care for Anaheim).

Does anyone have any pics they can share of the Burbank or North Hollywood area?

Are you currently in college? The professional internships are geared towards college students, I don't know that you could qualify if you aren't an undergraduate.

You're sure "in progress" means you'll get an offer, or just an acknowledgement that your application has been received and is being looked at? I certainly wouldn't rent before getting the internship (paid internship? great!). I'd start looking at ads, and maybe contact a property management (rental) company, either an independent one or one that's part of a larger real estate office, find some places within your budget, and see them in person. What I might like you might not. Being near public transportation could be a good idea even if you have a car (see www.metro.net). I grew up in Van Nuys but the area has changed a lot over the years. I think both Burbank and No Ho are good ideas.

Yes, I'm currently in college. I did apply for a professional internship this weekend.

I think "in progress" just means they've acknowledged my application and "may" get an interview (from other forums I've read). These are paid internships so my budget for renting a place will be limited to around $1200/mo. I will look up the metro link - I do have a car and from places I've looked at in the area, it would be quicker to drive to work but public transportation would save wear and tear. I've looked at both Burbank areas near the Studios and also No Ho. Thanks for your input!
