wow, i guess trades are never official until they're official.

i wonder who CP3 ends up with now? i suppose it's still possible that the lakers could deal for him, but with other nba owners rumored to have pleaded with david stern to nix the deal, it would seem that the lakers have to sweeten the pot to get him now.

so i guess the celtics and knicks are still viable players for CP3?

He'll end up wherever TV wants him to end up.

As the legendary Chick Hearn used to say "The NBA doesn't run the NBA. If CBS wanted the NBA to play with square basketballs at 2 o'clock in the morning then the NBA would play with square basketballs at 2 o'clock in the morning."

Chick Hearn was a wise man

Substitute Disney (ABC/ESPN) for CBS, and that statement still rings true today.

Rumblings in sports radio say both Paul and the Lakers are seeking counsel.

Dan Gilbert was one of the owners that coc$blocked the trade. The following is what he wrote to the commish.

Quote:
Commissioner,
It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.
This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.
Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.
I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).
I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.
I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….
Dan G.
F'n pathetic.

Maybe "over" isn't.

CP3 is not only refusing to attend practice in NO, he's about to sue the league. Kurt Rambis had it right - if all three teams signed off on the deal, then what the hell is the problem? Stern treating teams like his little children.

Nomatter what happens, it's painfully obvious: Big time players (who have options, ie Lebron) don't want to play in small-time cities, they want to be in big cities. So Stern can play God right now, but it doesn't change the fact that LA is more desirable, which makes me happy about this whole thing. We win. If you were a millionaire, would you want to live in Cleveland, Memphis, St. Louis, Kansas City, etc? No you wouldn't. Those are fine cities I'm sure, but for middle class people, not for millionaires.

The thing is, it's not like Paul or D Howard are being diva's who just came into the league and are dictating where they want to go before even playing a game. No they served their time, as did Lebron. They gave it 4, 5, 6 years with the team that drafted them, established themselves as superstars and deserve to play where they want (within the context of the rules of course).
