Hi!

So my friend is moving to L.A. from abroad, and I have several relatives interested in relocating, too. Though I live in L.A., I don't really know much about the rental/purchase market (yet they come to me for advice ). Was wondering if anyone could give me guidance I could pass along.

My friend has narrowed it down between one of the Archstone properties in Pasadena and a 1 BR in Westwood. + about the Pasadena one: really modern and luxurious looking, hardwood floors, near public transportation, walking distance to rows of shops and grocery stores. The thing is, she likes Pasadena, but she doesn't love it. She likes the small town feel of that area of Pasadena, but she fears she'll get sick of it quickly.

She basically loves high rise buildings with rooms with hardwood floors, modern-looking. Not picky about the look of the building itself. Just as long as her own place inside is modern with clean lines.

She loves West L.A. (Santa Monica, Westwood, Rancho Park). Not as hot as other areas, easy access to lots of shopping centers and the beaches, of course. She found an apartment right by UCLA at her price point (about $1500-1650 now). Downside? For the same price as the Pasadena one, it's an old building with old carpet. Things look dated. But the location and weather are great.

She also asked me about the Wilshire Corridor because she fell in love with some of the 1 BR places she visited a while back with some friends. I basically know nothing about that area (maybe if I win the Lotto...). I just know she is interested in renting a 1 BR on the Corridor and some relatives want to buy small condos there within the next year or so.

Questions:

-Which should she go for - the Pasadena one or Westwood?
-Is there ANY studio/1 BR places on the Wilshire Corridor for rent for about $1650? Preferably a contained building (whatever you call it...the hallways being inside ), hardwood floors. If not the Wilshire Corridor, in that general area (Westwood)? (I might not know a lot about properties, but that sounds kind of impossible to me...)
-For condo purchases, what are some decent buildings in Westwood my relatives should look into? I was under the impression that anything on Wilshire Corridor is a million bucks or more.

Thanks a ton!

Hope she has a lot of extra cash lying around: Amazing Condo for Rent in Westwoods Wilshire Corridor (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/apa/2753986615.html - broken link)
She can also Google it and find many realtors willing to show her and/or her relatives property in that area.

Westwood vs Pasadena? The west side is a little more hip....sounds as if that's what she's looking for.
