i don't understand the Big Boy chain's naming scheme. In Ohio it's called Frisch's Big Boy.

In the South Bay in the '70s/'80's, if our family went out to eat, it pretty much boiled down to BBB, Tony's, or Love's Wood Pit BBQ. Anybody remember Love's in Torrance? Their old pit master has their famous BBQ bean recipe on Uncle Phaedrus's section of hungrybrowser, for those who want the secret to the best beans ever.

Gotta miss BBB, given the unfortunate proliferation of bland swag like Applebee's and Olive Garden these days. And Denny's is not a proper replacement.

I doubt it, IMO they don't seem like direct competitors.

In Pasadena they were.....Bob's Big Boy was an institution in regard to hamburgers until In 'n Out opened. Even Twohey's in Alhambra didn't touch the following that the Colorado Blvd Bob's Big Boy had. But when In 'n Out appeared on Foothill....people hadn't tasted hamburgers like that....and you didn't have to wait as long to receive your order.

At least you all can still have a discussion about BBB. Here in the "Northland" the last ones went kaput about 20 years ago.

Bobs is a bit overpriced. Dennys isnt much better & the one in redlands on alabama is the worse. The owner is total trash. The oak house in yucaipa on yucaipa blvd is a total ripoff. Over priced food & very small portions. The cheeseburger has very little toppings & the salad is unbelievably tiny.
