Hi,

I am relocating to Los Angeles with my fiancee and our golden retriever. We are coming from Washington DC and I will be working in El Segundo while she will be working in West LA.

I was wondering what are some of the rental options we have given that we have a medium to large dog? Our budget is in the under $2000 for a 1 bedroom or under $2500 for a 2 bedroom and we are looking for either a place that is highly walkable or something that offers a lot of space and conveniences. We would like a safe area and preferably something that offers some outdoor living options. We live in Cleveland Park in DC and it is right by Rock Creek Park and that was a big plus. Obviously, we won't be able to have all of these things with our budget so we are willing to sacrifice some things.

The neighborhoods I have been looking in are Santa Monica, Miracle Mile, La Brea, West Hollywood, and especially Pacific Palisades (but have not found much here). Where are some other places that we should be looking given our projected commute times, budget, and dog situation?

Also, outside of craigslist (which is highly effective in Washington) and Westside rentals, what are some other good ways to find good places to rent in LA?

In that budget it's culver city, westchester, west la, or Mar vista. Small 2bd/1ba house with yard for $2100-2600. All are neighborhood walkable. All have parks and there open areas including nature settings nearby.

Btw, all the places you mention to el segundo would be a terrible commute except maybe Santa Monica.

Outside of Craigslist and Westside rentals, you'd really need to drive around and look for "for rent " signs or contact a local realtor. But Westside rentals worked great for me in that area. Not sure why people are hesitant to use them.
