Uverse is the same tech as FIOS, fiber to the home, and I've heard bad things about Charter. Maybe check DSLReports.com for your zipcode

I have before, thanks. Problems with those kinds of forums is, while they are very helpful, they're also eskewed in their representation of the negative aspects of a service provider. I mean, how many people would take the time to write posts about their great appreciation for their service?

However, every bad thing that they say about Charter on there IS true!

Yeah, I pay like $90 for 3 rooms/2 DVRs, no premium channels/sports packages/etc. Only goes out during exceptionally bad T-storms/hail/etc., but fine in snow/regular rain/whatever else. Customer service has always been good to us.

I don't have home phone or internet. Haven't for like three years!

Charter (and its predecessors) was horrible when I was a kid. Could only imagine how it is now.

I pay $140 for cable with all the premium/movie channels (not sports), highest speed internet, and home phone which I need. And, crappy customer service to boot!

You have NO internet at home, though? I would die without.

Me too, which is why I have an "arrangement" with a neighbor for internet (wi-fi), and a wireless air card for when his is down, and when I'm around town working.

My wife and I have cell phones, that more than make up for not having a house phone. Nobody would call us on it anyway.

I've never had premium channels. Maybe that's why friends say I'm behind on movies.

I wouldn't say the premium channels would catch you up on movies necessarily. They keep showing the same darned movies all the time.

I'm thinking of cancelling cable and just getting a Roku. I already subscribe to Netflix ($7.99/month) and can stream youtube on my tv for free; may get Amazon Prime ($80.00/year, roughly $6.50/month) and that would cover all my additional movie needs. Beyond that, I maybe (big maybe) try Hulu Plus for watching current tv shows ($7.99/month)....all through Roku. In all, I'd have access to well over 35,000 movies and tv shows...which is more than cable ever gives me, for a grand total of $24/month. That'd mean getting rid of my entire crappy cable service with Charter, which with a box set and a DVR + all the premium channels that show maybe 1-2 new movies a month (the rest is old stuff) comes to $95/month. The Roku idea = HUGE savings ($67)!

I have a ruku. Love it. Haven't gained the courage to cancel cable yet, though.
