Any advice in terms of housing to be <30 min drive away from Kaiser Sunset/little armenia/church of scientology area? What do rents go for around there? Is it safe? What about living in Glendale? I'll be relocating from outside of SoCal for a job and have been to LA several times in my life but never lived out there. Significant other and I will be making a little over 100K combined, as a conservative estimate. We would like to have some savings and are looking for a place with in unit washer drier, dishwasher, and safe.

Thanks.

What do you consider "relatively cheap"

On a combined $100K income, you should have zero problem at all.

Parts of Hollywood itself, Los Feliz, Studio City, Burbank, Toluca Lake, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Downtown LA, and Glendale are all safe and within 30 minute morning commute. You should have zero problem finding a one or even two bedroom apartment in those areas for under $1600/mo.

The only issues might be the in unit washer dryer. You'll have more luck in a Burbank or Glendale small SFR or bungalow in that regard though you might find something in Los Feliz or Silverlake. The safe....you're on your own on that one.

Thanks.

Would it be possible to find a one bedroom for < 1200? I have large educational loan debt that needs to be serviced.... (near 200K!), good thing she is debt free.

Yeah. It might be older/dated and almost certainly won't have a washer/dryer in unit, but thats about the going rate for a one bedroom in Los Feliz/Burbank/Glendale area.

I had a buddy who had a 1 bed apartment in Silver Lake off of Hyperion and Commonwealth and paid $900/month. I also had a friend who lived in Atwater Village and paid $825/month for a 1bedroom off of Glendale Blvd.

Your best all-around bet would be in Glendale. Focus on the areas north of the 134 Freeway.
