It's demographically a lot more like South Central than Highland Park or ELA. It's also a beautiful area, but has had its problems. One of which is an absolutely TERRIBLE school system.

Problems including very high unemployment, concentration of gangs, litter and dumping, little pride of ownership and no pride of rentership, high violent crime, etc.

There are definitely beautiful streets in the NW, but things can vary drastically from block to block. Do a Google street view on Mentone near Wyoming to see a very well kept, clean and neat part of the NW. Then, cruise over to Summit to see the pit of the beast. Also, I like the dude pushing the cart in front of 1915 Glen Avenue.
