I am considering moving to Los Angeles from NYC. The job market is awful here and the cost of living is killing me. I am wondering what the job market is like for Graphic Designers in LA. Are the ad agencies and corporate in-house creative departments hiring? Can anyone recommend a good headhunter, that actually gets you jobs?

Not great. I go back & forth between freelancing and trying to look for a full-time job. I'll be honest in that I haven't looked very hard, though. When I DO, it's all headhunters having me come in for interviews, telling me I'm perfect for the position, and then... nothing.
The salary isn't great ($65k/year or less that I've seen) and the cost of living here is also very high. Like NYC.
I've had a couple (read: 2) interviews with companies where I really didn't want the job, and I think they could tell. They were both for about $55k/year.
So... I've been trying to build my freelance practice. And that's going OK but also not great. Most of my clients are from out of state or they're here & broke (paying me in small installments or I'm working in trade).

I'm mostly a web designer but I do some print. I have over 15 years experience and have had some major clients. Pretty sure NYC job market is better than LA, unfortunately. Sorry. I wish I had better news.
