Looks like I might be making that (un)lovable 6-hour flight to spend a few days in LA this summer. Anyone can recommend a hotel in Downtown, Mid-Wilshire or in Westwood?

Proximity to the subway preferred.

It would help to know what your budget is and what you'll be doing (business or pleasure?) or where you want to go while you are here.

Oh, right. I can do around $125/night.

There is nothing in that price range in the Westwood area. I think there is a Ramada inn on Wilshire in Koreatown not far from a subway stop at Western. Tons of amenities, access to public transport and good korean food there.

-Why these 3 areas? They aren't necessarily the first picks of most tourists. You have business in these areas? Where exactly do yo want to be? The more precise you can be, the better people can assist (even with your low budget).

-See www.metro.net for info on public transportation in L.A. County, and you'll note that the subway is not real extensive. Westwood is nowhere near subway or light rail. Mid-Wilshire closer to at lest one line (depending on exactly where you are), and downtown closest of all. I do like Westwood, but you'd have to rely on bus or car. We stayed at the Tiverton House Patient Hotel | Family Accommodations | UCLA Tiverton House - Los Angeles, CA, which is primarily for patients and others doing business at the UCLA Medical Center, but which is-- or at least was when we were there-- available to the general public for just a bit over what you say your budget is.

-You don't say what your needs are in a hotel. Using Priceline/Horwire you could get any of a number of downtown hotels, including the Bonaventure and Sheraton and (at least according to www.betterbidding.cm) the historic Millennium Biltmore for at, or close to, your budget. Betterbidding.com has info on what others have gotten through Priceline and Hotwire, so you could check the three areas you're interested in and see what might be available. For booking directly, or using Expedia, etc., I think your budget is low except for a rather basic hotel in the areas you mention (if choosing downtown I don't think you want to go too far from the business center).
