I am headed back to los angeles march first after seven months away. I used to live in a big house with some friends in Lincoln Heights, and that is where i am moving back to. I love lincoln heights, its pretty safe and i used to walk everywhere. imagine my surprise hearing from an angeleno friend that a body was discovered there a week or two ago, a young girl, right off the freeway. another body was found last year off the freeway- both of the girls were young latinos. its too early to tell i suppose if this is a pattern, or just related to the large latino population in LH- both girls lived there, and being someone who loves walking around for hours i am wondering what caliber of gun i should buy. i am a female, i should mention. rumor has it that there is a white van with a couple guys in it trying to kidnap females off the street there. I haven't been able to get any info other than the "police are looking into it". KINDA like a little more info before i move back.

Its weird because the on ramp right there off broadway that goes near the dodger stadium, the hillside stranglers left two bodies there back in their heyday. if you know that area, right there on radio hill, its a bit spooky to drive past.

Are you the same "type" as the victims of these crimes? I would find out as much as you can about those cases to see if you are really in any danger. They may have been fleeing an abusive partner and been killed, or they might have been hanging out in drug dens and owed their dealer money -- things that should not worry you personally.

Buying a gun is likely to get you killed yourself unless you are very, very well trained and prepared -- even police officers are killed by their own guns. You should think that one over very carefully. The caliber is not the issue. Any caliber can kill you, or them.
