I'm a 25 year old female and I currently live in Florida. I plan on moving to California in about 8 months. I dont know anyone who lives out there so I'm kind of clueles while researching online. I will be moving out there by myself so I am very concerned with finding a neighborhood that is safe. I'm worried about gangs, I dont want to sound ignorant but the only thing I know about California is what I see in movies and hear in music. My fav color is red so will I get killed for wearing it?! Also I need to find either a one bedroom or a studio apartment that is between $600 - $800 a month. Please help! I need a safe place to live that is also within my budget.

If you are moving to LA, the answer is no.

You can rent a room for that price, but not a studio.

I've seen some studios in Long Beach for $650, I even went to look at one a few months ago when I was searching for a place. The place was a shoe box and the area was pretty bad. Also, there was no assigned parking only street parking.

I think for $800 you might be able to find an OK studio maybe even a guest house/back house type of arrangement. Look on Craigslist.

You can also rent a room for that much in a nice area like Manhattan Beach or Redondo if you're looking for places on the West side.

$600 - $800 is doable if you are willing to have roomates. Is there a particular reason why you are moving to LA from the Florida? The cost of living is drastically different.

Does the OP have a job lined up? And if so where?

And why move somewhere you have never visited?

I visited CA 3 times before moving out. I also had family and friends from college who lived there.

I won't tell anyone not to do it, as I did it at around the same age.

But there is no mention of a job, and LA is very spread out.

If you want people to help you then you need to provide some more information.

And for what's it worth I would feel safer in LA than in many parts of FL.
