Is it considered a good community college? Is it considered a good employer? Are most students looking for certifications or for AA/AS or for transfer credits?

What does "good" mean?

Well it's obviously subjective, I'm wondering what the reputation is in terms of academic standards, students successfully completing programs, and providing a quality education to students. As an employer, are people treated fairly, what is the retention rate, etc.

Talk to the admissions department, perhaps even the registrar's office.

I'm serious. Go to the source. Otherwise, all I know is that it's a college...in the Antelope Valley.

My gut feeling is there's nothing wrong with it. If you live out there then you shouldn't have commuting problems and rent should be pretty low compared to other parts of LA.

Are you familiar with Palmdale and Lancaster? Lots of threads on those places. The weather is a little more harsh than the LA metro.

What other options do you have? Would you be close to family? Would this be a good career move? Would you like living in the high desert in a distant LA suburb?

Afroman comes from Palmdale. He claims Mississippi now, but he's from SoCal.

I've never been to Palmdale, but that tells me all I need to know.

Seriously, though, I've read that a lot of lower-income elements from L.A. have moved out that way, like they have to the High Desert and San Bernardino, changing the demographics of those areas. And education, income and crime levels. Maybe someone from the AV can elaborate on or refute this.

Yeah, I've got the general Lancaster Palmdale picture, I've been out there, and relocation is likely for a good position for my husband. (Long story there, we both applied for the same job, he got the offer). We like the desert. I've read all the threads on the area in general. It's the CC specifically, especially in comparison to other So Cal CCs that I'm asking about.

I can tell you that they have poured tons of money into Antelope Valley College to make it a nice, state-of-the-art facility on par with other Southern California Junior Colleges.

The main staff at AV College have always been very nice people. I don't know much about the faculty but I suspect the same is true for them as well.
