Hey all,

I thank you all in advance.

I just recieved a job offer to work on the construction projects at LAX.

I have no idea what the best and most affordable places to live and a fairly easy commute to LAX would be.

Ive heard Hermosa beach and long beach from a buddy but he wouldnt know what the commute would be like. im looking in the 1000-1200 range.

Hello,

I'm originally from NYC (Astoria, Queens) and love the beach communities in the South Bay area. Hermosa Beach would definitely be a great choice; however, I'm not too familiar with the general prices of a 1-BR apartment and would probably guess that they're not very cheap. Redondo Beach & Torrance are definitely cheaper than Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, etc. Also, El Segundo is a nice area that is literally right there at the airport. All of the above areas I mentioned will probably have 1-BR apartments starting in the $1300 -$2000+ range, with $1300 probably being in the Torrance and/or Redondo Beach areas.

As for Long Beach, the downtown Waterfront area is very nice but I would think that your commute would be around 35 minutes to the airport. Also, 1-BR apartment prices would probably start around $1700-$1800.

There are a lot of choices and please try to do some research if you can. Hopefully the more experienced posters on here will be able to offer even better advice on what you are looking for. I have only lived in LA for just over a year, and I can tell you that it's massive! There's something for everyone out here and you can't beat the weather.

Enjoy your time out here, and best of luck in your search!
