We live in northern Virginia and we will be moving to north of LA. We may be choosing Stevenson Ranch, Valencia. Could you share some of your experiences regarding the following?
Commute to Los Angeles
Schools
Parks
Kids’ Activities
Library
Walking/biking trails

Thanks

Stevenson Ranch, Valencia, Santa Clarita, and Newhall are all in the Santa Clarita valley. Traffic is pretty horrendous coming into L.A. because there's only one major artery (the 5) that does it. If you need to commute at traffic times, you won't be very happy. But it is more economical, and generally cleaner/newer, so is a nice place to live.

Don't know about schools there.

Libraries are everywhere. So are walking/biking/hiking/outdoor activities and parks. You can be at the beach in 30 mins from just about anywhere and you can be in the mountains in the same.

Where is your job in Los Angeles? Living in such a crazy traffic city, this should be your main guiding point...try to live reasonably close to where you work and absolutely don't choose to live one valley over just because you're trying to save money. You'll accumulate headaches fighting traffic daily.
