Hi All,

I'm a 20 something white female who will be working in Santa Monica by the Yahoo buildings. I've never spent time in LA before, but I am fortunate enough that my company is paying to move me down there.

I have the option of taking 30 day corporate housing or $2000 up front to get situated in housing.

Ideally I'd like to pay a max of 1000/month but depending on the area and whats available I might have some wiggle room. I also have 2 cats.

Can you recommend nearby areas that would be affordable and safe? I've been looking in Culver city but finding places remotely is difficult as I won't be able to take viewings if I take the money up front option.

I will have a vehicle so for now I'm not concerned too much about walkability compared to price and safety. Thanks

I think $1000 might be tough for a 1BR but $1200-1300 is doable. Use padmapper.com and look in West LA, Mar Vista, or Palms.

Hmm it makes me thinking finding a room in a house or roommates would be a better option but that is difficult when I come with 2 pets

You can find a studio in SM for $1,000-$1200/ month. The lower range will not have a full kitchen. SM 1 bedrooms will be in the $1350-$1500 range (of not significantly more).

Areas of West LA, Palms, Mar Vista, Venice, etc will have 1 bedrooms closer to that $1300 mark.

You really need to try to bump you budget, or find a roommate.

Thanks for the info on these numbers. My budget is going to be determined by the offer of the company hiring me. Let's hope my negotiations end up going well I'd love to accept a place around 1300 there aren't too many bad ones that I've been looking at in the areas that have been suggested.

Thanks so much!
