I'm planning to go to the E3 show and need a place to spend the night. Who has the cheapest rates?

I'm willing to stay in one of the nicer residential hotels (flop houses) if they still exist. I heard most of them were converted into condos.

Flop houses? I don't think we've had those since the 1930's.

There used to be some fairly inexpensive weekly rate hotels downtown. Some of them might be considered to be flop houses.

Probably Hotel Cecil on Main St.

But you should really read the review on Trip Advisor and Yelp first. Next cheapest I know of is the Stillwell on Grand between 8th and 9th.

I agree you may not want the very cheapest you can find. There may be places where people with barely any money at all stay, but would you want to be there?

Might be best if you gave your budget. Tried Priceline and/or Hotwire? If you look at www.betterbidding.com you can see what others have gotten. Weeknight prices generally higehr than weekends at most places.

I'd like to spend no more than $75. That's why I asked about the residential hotels. I spent a night in one about 20 years ago that wasn't too bad. I can't remember the name though. I think it cost about $25 or so, about the same price as a cheap motel in Orange County at the time.

Not sure about specific hotels...but have you looked on Airbnb ? Looks like you should be able to find something for under $75 in a place much nicer than a flophouse type of situation.

There is a bachelor apt on there for $49 close to the convention center..not sure if its available for the E3 date..but u should check it out.

Also the priceline suggestion is great! I almost always try booking on priceline when i stay somewhere and usually save a lot , 50% off retail is not unusual. ,
