TBH, the skyline really stands out at night compared to the daytime.

I think the 2 best views are form Dodger Stadium and the Observatory. The city looks pretty sci fi-ish at night.

Always wanted to take night shots of it but my camera sucks for that.

There is a pretty good view from the Arts District if you get a little elevation, like from a parking structure. You're close enough to the towers of the Financial District, and it faces west, which if good if you want a sunset. Good luck.

I concur. I used to live in the arts district years ago and the view from our rooftop was killer at sunset and after dark.

Pretty crappy photo taken from my unit with a cell phone, but you get the idea. The buildings are much closer than they appear in this picture. And yes, downtown la looks much better at night from a distace as well as street feel imo.

The best view is from the EAST looking west at about the 10 EAST of DTLA. City Hall and the older (better architecture) shorter buildings are in view with the more modern ones rising behind them. Far too many pics from the Westside looking east as DTLA from there is several feet BELOW Crown Hill and you can only see the top portions of the buildings. That is an inferior view.

I like the views from Rose Park in El Sereno, the hills in Baldwin Hills, and coming north on the 110 from around 54th.

Driving South on the Hollywood freeway. The Skyline looks so big and spread out. You really notice how long (north-south) downtown really is. It's beautiful.

I was heading south one night that way, and I looked over to see a gorgeous full moon (looking somewhat harvesty because of the smog, lol, but it sure made it purdy!) hovering just above and to the left of downtown. It looked like a freaking postcard! I had to be careful driving because I just had to keep stealing looks at it!

Or Elysian Park north of that:
