Santa Clarita? That's nowhere near the beach and it's a tough commute to Los Angeles.
Considering Santa Clarita is building 20,000 MORE homes, the commute to LA/SFV will be unbearable in the a few years.

Santa Monica would work fine for the OP, given the budget.
The El Segundo/Redondo Beach/Torrance area might work too, but it isn't as close to LA as Santa Monica.
