Dear members , still need a clear answer on these two questions

Question 1 : Can I as a tourist do castings for music / movies / shows during my time in LA or are all castings only for people who are a U.S. citizen ?

Question 2 : What's the best spot for me to rent an apartment ? I know L.A. is spread out so a car will be necessary but where are most industry people , castings and events happening in L.A. ?

No. Partially b/c you need to be a citizen or have a work visa to get hired. Mostly because it takes a long time and many, many auditions to actually have some success. I know you said that you're popular where you live now; nobody in LA cares about that.

There are dozens and dozens of threads on this. In a nutshell: events and auditions are held all over. Live where you can afford.

Isn't showbiz success achieved through YouTube these days, anyway? Location is a real estate thing, not the howling-into-a-mic thing.

YouTube isn't there yet. YouTube don't count , only sales do. You have a lot of YouTube channels with great artists covering songs and sometimes do their own songs but 99 percent is not signed. They have a lot of followers , they have a lot of views , they sell some units but nothing outstanding so YouTube is great if you are already established. I heard many labels don't care about Twitter followers etc... I mean look at Facebook , they went public and it's a disaster right now , stock price is increasing in a negative way. This only makes label more paranoid with online statistics.

Actually, I have a friend who makes a TON of money through YouTube. He's super popular on it. He just got a part in a movie, too.

I attended a "writing for TV" workshop (it was a speakers panel with Dan Harmon and a bunch of other successful writers and it included a former studio jr. exec) and one of the biggest things I took away from it (and this applies, I think to acting & music) is that you can't wait for Hollywood to notice you. That you should go ahead and do your own thing especially now that it's easier than ever to do so. And to utilize YouTube to do so. Do something awesome, get a lot of fans/followers on YouTube, and you will start getting Hollywood's attention.

Yeah, with kneepads and a lack of a gag reflex, lots of "bimbos" are "discovered" that way too. Hollyweird is nothing but one big orgy and drug den.
