There are still misbehaved and troubled youths here in the US too. Some of them are into drugs, graffiti, and sometimes crime.

I am American and I think your British accent sounds good!

I was talking to a British ex-pat who moved to LA 20 years ago and he claimed there are 60k Brits living in LA. I've always been curious what it is about LA that seems to appeal to Brits. I'm guessing the Mediterranean climate and relatively reasonable cost of living compared to London. Sort of like the people who live in the north fantasizing about retiring to Florida.

My background, for perspective: born in Russia, moved to L.A. in 1996 (13 y.o.) moved to Virginia two years ago, now moving to Michigan. My own take on L.A. is much, much less pleasant than yours as over the years I have found it to be superficial and fake, unprofessional, obnoxious and arrogant. Yes, there are good parts to it as well - you've seen them - but like others have said, don't confuse tourism and immigration. Now onto my relationship with the U.K.

I visited London for the first time in 1994 and didn't care for it at all. Bad weather, "ugly old buildings", horrid food (at 11 y.o. what did I know? we stayed with a nutso host family that fed us the same crap every day), etc, etc. Since then, I have visited every year in the 2008-2011 period, inclusive, and fell absolutely in love with London and all things British. Love the people, the accents and the language (Sarah Alexander of the Coupling sold me once and forever), the football (COYI!), the countryside, the motor racing, etc, etc. Oh, and the Indian food. Haven't traveled much outside of London - only to Brands Hatch for a DTM race, Manchester for a day trip and Silverstone for a BTCC race, but my mind hasn't changed. Obviously, I've avoided the bad parts since, as a tourist, I have no good reason to go there, but yes, I would absolutely consider giving the UK a shot as far as living there is concerned.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the comments and conversation on my thread.
Interesting to hear views of locals and other folks not based in LA.

So, i'm just about getting over my post holiday blues. As I type this the sun has just peeked out of the clouds, a rarity.

We are more serious than ever about getting out there on a permanent basis.
So here's to lots of time typing, emailing and sorting out resume's... you never know what's around the corner.

Thanks again.
