I recently moved to LA and noticed a lot of times stores have a man with a clipboard asking people for something. No one approached me yet, but I'm wondering what that's all about.

Usually they are getting registered voters to sign a petition for some cause.
Enough signatures, and they can get what ever they are promoting, on the ballot for a vote.
I am getting ready to start a petition drive to get one(for sure) and perhaps more city council members recalled.
I am getting the troupes organized presently.
Bob.

They simply want acceptance for their perverted love of paper. They want the same basic rights that are accorded to normal people - and I say let them have it.

Seriously, they're trying to get you to register as a voter and hopefully vote for their party. Or as Calguy said, sign a petition.

Ah, I see. Thanks. That's kind of dangerous though, providing personal info to a stranger. I registered the old fashioned way, at the DMV.
