A little story and then a quick question to any Staples Center regulars or experts...

I have been to Staples a couple times. We have always sat in the upper 300 nosebleed section. This time we've got the lower 100 section near the floor.

In the past we have entered the facility and gone straight up the escalator to the upper section and never go back down until the event is over. No reason to go back down during the event since the same stuff is also on the upper lever (drinks, food, merchandise, restrooms, smoking terrace)

I was not really paying much attention but I believe there is only 1 escalator in the entire facility...? Which moves UP until the event is almost over. Then it switches to DOWN nearing the end of the event. I do not see any way to get down the escalator during (or in the middle of) the event.

My questions is... how the heck do you easily (and quickly!) get down to the lower section from up above? Is there a different escalator I missed somewhere? What is the deal with this? Surely there has to be a way back downstairs during the event?

The only reason I care is because I smoke (A LOT) and I like to visit the outdoor smoking terrace in the upper 300 section several times. I know I can ride the escalator up but where do I ride back down to get back to my seat in the lower level if the escalator is only going up?

Sorry, I don't see how they can just trap you up there so there must be something I missed...?

Hopefully my short story and question make sense! Or maybe someone can make some sense of it...

There are two escalators, one on each side of the building. There is also an elevator next to each escalator so use that for your smoking breaks.
