Greetings everyone...
Just wondering what is your thoughts about traffic on 4th of July.
Not really too sure if it's typically busy or slower on the freeways? Mainly the 15 south & 210 west

Since many people dont work on the 4th, are the major freeways through the San Bern/Los Angeles areas less crowded? Or is it the opposite and an even worse nightmare than a normal (not a holiday) weekday?

We are headed back home to LA from Vegas on 4th of July. We're going to split from Vegas early (around 10am). Would you expect traffic to be better, similar or worse than a normal work weekday? Hopefully we can be back to LA before 3pm!

So will we get some good luck on the way home or have we struck out on this one?

I'd like to avoid it.

Traffic in L.A. should be less than a normal weekday. Traffic on I-15 out of Vegas maybe morel than a typical day, though leaving early should help. This year the 4th in the middle of the week, so the beginning or end of an extended weekend for fewer people than if it fell on a Friday or Monday, IMHO. Some people may take off Monday and Tuesday and come back Wednesday. Others may take off Thursday and Friday.

It sounds like your plans are made and you just want to know whether to worry. Maybe worry a little but not a lot? Don't know where in L.A. area you're going, but you could always enter the city via Hwy. 14 (e.g., cut over to 14 from 15 on Hwy. 58 or Hwy. 138) vs. I-15. All in all, I'd worry more about the heat in LV and on the road than I would about traffic in the L.A./S.B. area.

A word of advice about the 18 (it branches off the 138 when you're on the way to Vegas). It's one lane in each direction for much of the drive, so it's all too easy to end up stuck behind a truck.
