I am about to move to LA and so am looking for apartments for rent. I liked an apartment at Caswell Ave in Mar Vista neighborhood but neither the parking is gated nor the entry into the apartment building. This is making me worried as I am not aware with the safety in that area. Please help me in this regard ASAP as I have to make a decision soon. Thanks and regards.

Are you concerned about your safety, or the safety or your car?

This year (2012) there have been 1 motor vehicle theft on Caswell to date, and one structure burglary (non auto). In the surrounding few blocks, there have been +/-10 vehicle thefts this year. One petty theft on the street, pretty minor stuff. I wouldn't worry too much.

Thank you for your response. I m concerned about both, my safety as in terms of apartment break-ins and moving in street and car theft as well. As I am a home maker so I will be staying home all day alone. Please help me about this. Thanks and Regards

You shouldn't have anything to worry about. That isn't the best area in LA, but it is far far far from the worst.

Its very difficult to judge based on replies from an online message board, have you visited the area?

Thanks again. I saw the area and liked it but now all sorts of thoughts are going on in my mind. I understand there is nothing called absolute safety. Had the apartment building been gated I wouldn't have mind. I am just worried about the non- gated thing. I don't have much time so please advice me. Thanks and regards.
