It really depends on what part of Glendale you're talking about as far as "safe." Much of Glendale is very safe but some areas are pretty dicey with long-standing gang issues. South Glendale near Glassell Park and Atwater have had long-standing gang problems. Yes, it's not as bad as it was ten years ago but there are still gangs in South Glendale and you see their fresh graffiti quite frequently.

If you're considering Glendale, you might want also to look at Montrose and La Crescenta, which overlap the so-called "Glendale Extension" to the north. Some parts of Montrose and La Crescenta are actually in unincorporated LA County but they have Glendale addresses (and I think they're Glendale schools, too, although I'm not certain about that). There are incredible views in the upper parts of La Crescenta.
