Yes...Hispanics.....gangs, drugs, crime...Van Nuys BLVD looks trashy and everything is in Spanish...it's like TJ.
Of course there is good and bad...but personally, I see the bad and I don't like it.

Yes, it's safe and it's seedy. Just depends on what part of VN you're talking about.

There are good areas and there are bad areas.

Good - Area that is bordered by Sepulveda on the west, Magnolia on the south Burbank to the north and as far east as North Hollywood. There are a few nice pockets north of Burbank (near Van Nuys Airport) but there are also some really scary ones as well. Heading west past the 405 it gets a little nicer but still areas with lots of apartment buildings tend to get really seedy.

Bad - Most of the other areas of Van Nuys. The worst being near Van Nuys high and going further north heading towards Panorama City.

Van Nuys is a great area to live, becuase its in the CENTER of everything. Just stay away from areas with lots of apartment buildings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Van Nuys actually begins at Burbank Blvd. Sherman Oaks is to the south.

Parts of Van Nuys are a real pit. Just ask people who live there! I lived on the west side for two years, in what is now called "Lake Balboa" (give me a break!), on Hayvenhurst between Victory and Vanowen, and got to experience things like:

1. A drunken guy passed out against his car horn, which blasted for hours.
2. People would honk to get their friends' attention in my apartment building, no matter what time it was.
3. My neighbors on both sides were awful - on one side was a psycho woman who was constantly fighting with her boyfriend, and on the other was a guy who would party and play loud music at 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday!!!
4. Another neighbor in my building would call me from the intercom and invite me to "make love" with him in the laundry room.
5. Every day those obnoxious street vendors with their corn would honk their bicycle horns at the precise moment when I'd be trying to take a nap (I moved to Sherman Oaks to get away from them, and now they're here, too! I can't win. ).

I'd never live in Van Nuys if I had a choice of almost anywhere else, sorry.
