It's probably ok since 5-0 is only a few blocks away but why chance the random Asian mugging (lol) when, for about $20-30 more a night, you can stay in a less exciting neighborhood?

Why would you choose a motel enirely based on price? If you are so worried about money - there are a few hostels around the L.A. area(the one that comes to mind in near LAX - and there is another right in the heart of Hollywood). Most hostel prices would work out to about $200 for 5 nights for 2 beds.

I don't think that the motel you are planning to stay in is geared toward tourists - and besides, Central/Vernon isn't really near or on the way to anything you will likely want to see - unless you are digging into old Central Ave's historic jazz scene, visiting Watts Towers, or checking out the "Vernon pigs". I suppose there is easy access to downtown LA, Exposition Park, or Leimert Park area - but there are plenty of other places you could stay at that would be better choices. It might be "Central Ave" but that location isn't centrally located to much of anything.

But why would i choose a hostel when a motel is the same price? And the location of this motel is just 8 min drive from downtown. And unfortunately so many hotels in downtown not only they are far more expensive but also sold out. The question is since I will not be walking around the area but I will just drive up the road to get to down town would that be dangerous? I mean I even see the police department is just a block away..

Driving in the daylight is not dangerous -but the police department being nearby actually makes the choice worse - you will attract negative attention as a neighborhood outsider.

I'm just curious as to why your criteria for a motel is that it be the cheapest? In the United States - a dirt cheap room should raise warning flags - you really could do much better for $20 or $30/night more.

Look, noone here will recommend this motel to any normal LA tourist. You can post on tripadvisor.com for second opinions but since you have a car, why not stay somewhere safer for just a little bit more money?

WOW! And now that I see the location, it's RIGHT next to some apartments and a historic hotel, the Dunbar, that my cousin runs...so it's weird. It's for sure for sure the "hood" but they are trying to make some changes in that exact area. I think it's a Jazz park on the other side of the street.

The good news is you won't have to look far to find a "date" during your stay.

True - that is also a good method of catching an STD.

I was looking in google maps and looks surprisingly good!
Yes, it does seem like a troll thread... Why in the world would you vacation in a motel? And keep your opinion of black people to yourself... Assuming only makes an ass out of you...
