We live in South OC where the amount of cultural and historical shine and grime is quite thin, almost asphyxiating. My 8-yo daughter has been begging me several times a week to return to LA since we went to The Grove almost a year ago. She enjoyed the glitzy shops as well as the tastes and vibes of the Market.

Assuming we hit The Grove and Market at some point, what might you recommend to give her a good balance of trendy (she hears about LA in her pop songs) and more historical and cultural. I thought it might be fun to eat at a landmark food joint, for instance, and no doubt she imagines walking a street where a pop star might spill out of a limousine.

Eventually we intend on returning to hit the major museums and such, so this trip is more about the city itself.

the la brea tar pits are just down the street from the Grove, which is a good place for kids. hollywood blvd is also pretty interesting with the big mall, the chinese theater and the walk of fame. kids and adults alike also really enjoy the griffith park observatory. i personally love that place and wish i went more often.
