Tower at Hollywood Hills
1800 North Normandie Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90027

My partner & I are planning a move to LA this Fall and we've been researching this apartment complex. It is particularly appealing because it is only 1 mile away from LA Children's Hospital where my partner will be working. However, we've not been able to find any reviews on this place and we know nothing about the safety of the street this complex is on. Does anyone out there know anything about this particular area, and would be willing to offer any advice?

Also, we're looking at 2 different apartment layout's at this complex

One Bedroom
Square Feet ** 625 - 653
Rent * $1500.00 - $1600.00

One bedroom with loft
Square Feet ** 715 - 735
Rent * $1725.00 - $1800.00

Do these prices seem reasonable? And, would it be ideal for 2 girls, and 2 small dogs....and maybe 1 guest from time to time?

Our main goal is to be as close to the children's hospital as possible, so if anyone out there knows of any more complex's close by we'd be grateful for suggestions.

Thanks for any advice

Its not the safest area late at night, but not terrible.

I think those prices are super high for those particular size units/location though.

Thats downtown pricing in Hollywood/Los Feliz and I think you can find cheaper and closer on the other side of Sunset.

Of course thats if you are willing to live in an older building. If you MUST have a new build place, then I guess...as there aren't many of those in that area. As you can see from the street view on Google maps, the place you are looking at:

1.) Is surrounded by old, outdated apartment buildings.

2.) Has very severe parking issues.

Just FYI, the childrens hospital is right on top of the Red Line. At that spot, its about a 15 minute train ride max from either of the far ends of the line in Downtown and North Hollywood. Your money would go farther in North Hollywood, and about the same in Downtown.

Bottom line is that I think at those prices, you should easily be able to get a 2 bedroom apartment within walking distance of Childrens Hospital in your price range and a nicer neighborhood than the one immediately around your listing here. Also you should be able to get that very close to the Red Line station in North Hollywood.

As a for instance....this isn't quite walking distance, but super easy biking or like a 5 minute drive....and a MUCH nicer neighborhood, 2bd, 1ba, 2 dedicated parking spots, and pet friendly at $1700/mo:

2bed 1 bath Best location

This one IS within easy walking distance of Childrens Hospital, and also a nicer neighborhood:

**COURTYARD BUILDING**

IMO you will do best by simply driving around the area and looking for "for rent" signs. Maybe take a few day trip out here a month or so in advance and rent a car and drive around.....
