My family and I have been living in corporate housing downtown (where my husband is working) and while we love living here, it's not ideal for our children. We would love a neighborhood, or townhouse community. Right now my kids are the only ones in the building. This doesn't go over well with the tanned and toned 20-something crowd at the pool every day

Thanks to some direction from this forum, we have narrowed our search down to renting in Burbank and Long Beach. We have, however, heard some good things about Torrance, El Segundo, and Los Feliz. Now I'm confused!

I would love some opinions, and if anyone does the commute downtown from any of these towns, would you be kind enough to share the commute time? This is very important to us. My husband works LONG hours and we are a bit spoiled living here in DTLA.

Ideally, I am looking for a walkable area. We don't like to use the car unless we have to.

We homeschool, so public schools aren't terribly important to us.

Thanks!

Burbank is nice and has walkable areas and not too far from downtown. I would pick it over Long Beach.

It's further from downtown but it sounds like you would love Sherman Oaks.
Living on Ventura Blvd. would be a car-free dream but also more expensive.

El Segundo is nice but expensive and you are close to the airport so lots of pollution.
Torrance is a far commute from downtown.

Los Feliz is a small area but cute.
