Hi all,
I'm moving to Claremont and will have to drive once a week, Monday evening down to Fullerton. I'm curious what the traffic is like on highway 57? Thanks for any help :-)

Google Maps has a feature that can estimate average traffic at whatever time of day you're curious about. Generally speaking it should be reliable.

Thanks -- seems that this is not a popular route if no one is commenting?

You should actually ask this question in the Orange County forum, you'll get better info over there.

There's also this:

By the way, I just checked, now it is a little after 6PM and traffic heading south on the 57 isn't too bad. Monday afternoons are usually the "least worst" afternoon traffic.

Traffic wont be great, but try find a freeway in Los Angeles or the surrounding that is on a weekday night. At least you will be going the opposite direction of traffic as there is usually a huge jam where the 57 and 60 join (near Diamond Bar). Id guess you would be lucky enough to flow though most nights, but as to be expected Thursday and Fridays are the worst nights in general for traffic so your Monday commute by LA standards will be a breeze

If you are heading back home before 7pm (and eastbound) be prepared to sit in some traffic.

In my experience traffic going south on the 57 is okay in the evenings. You will see some slowdown (sometimes it comes to a dead stop) where the 57 and 60 come together but you're going against traffic, so in general it flows pretty smoothly. Your ride into fullerton should be okay. Depending on what time you're coming back to Claremont, you will definitely sit in some traffic unless you're not coming back until like, 8 or 9pm or so (and even then..)

What part of Fullerton? I admit, I'm not very well versed in the trains--never actually used them-but I know Fullerton has a train station downtown. If there is one nearby is that a possible alternative?

Yeah, it looks like it would be considering we're talking about the "Orange Freeway", but OP will be commuting from Claremont to Fullerton. The majority of that 57 trip will be in LA County.
