I am thinking of relocating to the LA from the bay. I was thinking the West LA area or somewhere near. I am used to paying around 1200 for a one bedroom apartment. Is that do-able in the areas I am looking for in LA. I am willing to pay a little more if nec.

West LA is a neighborhood in the western part of the city of LA. 1200 can get you a one bedroom. Not the nicest but its doable. That budget can also work in Mar Vista, Palms, Culver City, Venice, which are all neighborhoods or city in West Los Angeles area. Probably not really in Santa Monica, Brentwood, Westwood, which are more upscale city or neighborhoods in in the West Los Angeles area.

Yes it's doable. Especially in the Palms area.
