I stayed in LA for 2 weeks and just got back and couldn't believe how awful the roads are..... it reminded me of baghdad or something. . .
literally the worst roads ive ever seen. OI was shocked and can't stop talking about it to my friends back on the east coast.

It's all 3rd world out here.

Has anyone seen LAX lately? It seems to be in a constant state of disrepair and construction.

Have you been to baghdad?

What are your friends from "the east coast" saying? Last time I drove around the NYC metro area (recently), roads there were pretty bad there as well.

litreally the surface streets in LA are crumbling.... they can't believe it. I mean I wasn't expecting immaculate roads or anything. In fact, I never really even notice roads when I travel, but LA's were so bad that I had to actually worry about the shocks on my car going out or my car bottoming out, it was freakin awful....

no I haven't been to Baghdad, but that still doesn't take away the fact that LA's roads are terrible. And dude, dont take it so personal, just because u live in LA doesn't mean im bagging on u or your city, I'm just stating a fact that the roads in LA are baaaaaad as heck. Shocking was all. The freeways are acceptable, its the surface streets that shock me...literaly, shocking my spine and dislocating disks cuz of the potholes

all the roads i drive are perfectly acceptable. the sidewalks on the other hand could use some serious work in some areas. other than getting the rail situation moving again, the mayor has done a good job prioritizing the condition of the roads. i have lived and traveled much of the city during his term and have really had very minimal issues. my neighborhood was recently paved (<1 year ago) and sidewalks have been mended as well. the city has also kept all the major boulevards in my area in surprisingly good condition.

He's right, some of the roads in LA are really really bad. They just do minor pothole fixes when they need to scrape and repave completely. Off the top of my head, Pico between Sawtelle and Sepulveda and Coldwater Canyon between the 101 and Ventura are major arterials that are big offenders.

I would be surprised if there wasn't just a pinch of exaggeration going on here as we all tend to justify the shortcomings of where we come from. Sure, like other metropolises, some Los Angeles well traveled roads may be falling behind scheduled maintenance as municipal budgets suffer the same. But for such a large area, I'd say Old Los Angeles is doin ok proportionately.

And just think, LA doesn't even have the excuse of bad weather to hide behind when explaining the poor road conditions.
