+1

The OP would have been better off with a microwaved burrito rather than eat at El Toritos.

Border Grill on 4th Street would have been a much better option; consistently a top rated restaurant for Mexican food

The El Torito in Marina Del Rey is almost always busy. Good location, right on the water.

The one thing they have going for them (even in a recession), they always do a lot of business with big parties, 8-10 people. Between that and happy hour, and occasional specials, it keeps them pretty busy.

With the new yorkers and pizza hut analogy, I don't think we're necessarily use to high quality mexican food out here. New york pizza is like an institution. Here, we're still use to taco bell, or del taco, lol. The el toritos seem to have a steady business in the middle.

Personally, I'm not impressed with Tito's. When I'm in that part of town I make a beeline for Johnnies. I'd go to Cinco De Mayo on the corner before Tito's.

Botching the Latin phrase for "and others" on a City-Data forum is like an employer of the English language contracting "you" and "are" as "your".

Oh give it a rest. I'm native to the area, and I know good food. BTW, when was that last time you dined at El Torrito?

busted, but a simple typo. I have used the proper "et al" in numerous other threads. But I am also guilty of using their/there, your/you're, where/were/wear - just typing faster than I want to.

Johnnies Pastrami is great.

I grew up on Tito's and I agree, it's not all that. The only thing it has going for it is that it's cheap, it beats Taco Bell, and is open late.

I ate at El Torito (not the SM one) last year for my kid's soccer awards banquet. The food is not bad, what I would call gringo-fied Mexican, but is not what I would consider "best Mexican food".
