The ocean brings the fresh air.
The fresh air attracts the wealthy people.
The wealthy people attract the attention.

Of course how did I miss the fresh air? It all makes sense now!

Only the wealthy seem to enjoy fresh air.

I think the Westside attracts attention of Hollywood because glamor, wealth & celebrity are the romanticized ideals of LA (at least in movies & TV/cable). We don't have a SoHo or a Williamsburg or a Haight to spotlight are edgier artistic boho scene. And writers & directors seem fine with typecasting the entire city as an extended version of Calabasas or Newport. Even the LA-based JGL-Deschanel dramedy 500 Days of Summer makes "urban" city life seem quaint & more like Seattle than Manhattan.

They are not super-urban but Silver Lake, Los Feliz and Echo Park are LA's Williamsburg or Haight. Of course they have a more suburban aesthetic but are pretty active and vibrant places along Sunset and other commercial areas.

Hopefully new movie directors cast a new spotlight on LA.

500 Days of Summer was a god start.

Especially now that everyone realizes what a joke suburbia has become(hence the re awakening of urbanization).

500 Days of Summer made LA look like Seattle. Not much of a good start, but then again I am getting tired of all the faux indie dramedys out there set in (West) LA.

Good god, do only yuppies fall in love, according to Hollywood? LOL.

When wealthy people enjoy something it has a tendency to make it less accessible.....

That's definitely true for LA, I'll give you that.

Never been to a city before where all the nice things are only afforded by the rich and the rest of us literally get their leftovers.

In other towns it's not uncommon to see average income people living in new apartment buildings and in areas where everything is sparkling but here in LA you gotta move your way up from 70s style architecture to 80s to 90s where you're getting up there and boom you've really made it if you're in an area that looks three years old. LOL!

True. And if it is about a normal angelino in the east side, it's a movie about gangs. But east side was forgotten and left in the 90's.

And only reason 500 Days made LA look like Seatle or any other city is because people dont picture L.A. like that. But I say keep depicting that side of L.A., and make it known that it is indeed L.A., and eventually everyone will have a new picture of L.A.

But DTLA looks better than that.
