Had this in Riverside.

Too bad none of those cities have the "energy of LA" which was the point of his comment. I mean, Riverside? Really? Go get it if that's you but don't try to throw that out there like it's a well-accepted great place to live. It's hot and hicked out! People move there for the money and complain about how wack it is in the long run.

A lot? Yeah if you classist? I agree that there's a lot of anti-West LA people and etc., and that comment is great but can't justify the sense of classist comments sorry buddy.

But from visiting LA, it's got this underlying rough edge to it, just a little bit of a danger element to it that keeps me slightly on guard, I like that. I can't help it, that stuff captivates me (of course I sympathize for anyone with mental disorders). Or how 'bout the occasional helicopter with his search light on looking for somebody. You know there's some freak roaming around, so you lock your doors and feel all cozy and safe in your apartment. I love cruising the streets of LA at night time, the neon signs of porn shops reflecting off the windows of my car. I love your huge billboards that say, "Get your STD check", or the bumper stickers that say, "Don't throw your baby away". It's like some sci-fi city of the future!

I just need to accept the fact that I truly belong in LA, wrap up this college degree and gtf out there. My adventure is awaiting me.
One thing is for sure, Los Angeles is a very "noisy" city. It's is also the "smelliest" US city (read the link before jumping down my throat) - all in all it is a very stimulating city to live in. Not sure my Hollywood life is quite as exciting as what you described above, though it definitely has its moments and is the most interesting place I've lived (though to give Boston credit it was also very interesting, though that may have more to do with my "crowd" than the city itself). One thing I have noticed, when I walk around or travel on PT, I almost never bring my headphones with me - I kind of prefer just taking in all the sights and the sounds of the city.

I don't hate on West LA but it is the epicenter of the negative stereotypes about LA.
Hah well they did try to block a rail line a few years ago, but ended up screwing the themselves into the Orange Line busway and not LRT, which is a shame because it can more than support an LRT line. They demanded a subway I believe in a manner similar to what Goodman and the Expo Smart Rail (or whatever they call themselves) are attempting to do with Expo Phase II. Of course this didn't cause major friction in the city since the SFV (unlike the Westside) is on the edge of the metro area and is not a vital crossroads.

That being said I wouldn't blame Westsiders for the Purple Line debacle. There are about 20 people and their three figureheads in Beverly Hills government who are personally responsible for this fiasco - if they lose (which I believe they will) I hope that the residents of the city of Beverly Hills immediately call for all of their resignations, if not actually take civil action against them for misappropriating massive amounts of school funds. Keep in mind the residents of Beverly Hills actually voted over 50% for Measure J, not enough to pass but definitely a majority of the population, despite being in the epicenter of the "No on J" campaign.

I wouldn't blame the Westsiders really because in the end, the working class still outnumbers the rich in those areas too.

LOL. Who said anything about great? I was talking about helicopters.

My point(s) was that the things he was mentioning can be found other places or anywhere.

abso-freaking-lutley. i wouldn't change my east LA hood for anything in the world. east LA is loaded with decent, working class, down to earth folk who just might have some jailbirds or two in the family tree, but my dad was a bootlegger, so i definitely feel more at home among the outlaw class, or at least, people who won't judge you for doing time. and remember, it was east angelenos who brought down richard ramirez. that fool had a dozen latinos chasing him with tire irons and they coldcocked him til the cops could get there. i think one of those dudes was given a key to the city or something. would they have done that in santa monica? HELL NO. they wouldn't have wanted to spill their freakin' lattes.

hahaha, great post.
i have lived here for around 6 years, and it is this quality that keeps me coming back. i LOVE driving through LA at night, especially downtown and certain parts of hollywood. just that sort of sick otherwordliness i don't find anywhere else- maybe new orleans. all that old hollywood glamour bumping up against a million broken dreams. alot of people would call that sketch, but for me, it still translates as excitement. it probably always will (tho i plan on moving to pasadena as soon as i finish my degree- the best of all worlds-cutesy and clean and safe but right NEXT to the massive behemoth known as LA). i envy myself sometimes : )

Driving around LA at night is AMAZING. I've never seen a city with such amazing eclectic scenery.

I could drive for hours just checking it out and bumping music.
