Southern California Gas to pay $4-million settlement over massive Porter Ranch gas leak - LA Times

SCGas was fined only FOUR million dollars for one of the biggest gas leaks in recorded history. The amount of damage done to people, the ecosystem, air quality, etc. is absolutely criminal.

And then SCGas will just pay it off by increasing everyone's gas bill by 20 cents for the next few months. Heads should have rolled for this and there should have been criminal penalties.

It looks like there will likely be other lawsuits as well
"but the utility still faces potentially costly civil actions from both residents and regulators."

This gas leak was really bad , we also have lot's of pollution in L.A
The worst in the nation along with Bakersfield

Los Angeles and Bakersfield top list of worst air pollution in the nation - LA Times

It's funny that the city is always trying to say how "Green" L.A is.

Funny how since 1979 our pollution in LA has halved and is slowly getting better: How bad was L.A.'s smog when Barack Obama went to college here? - LA Times

From the article: "Los Angeles remains the city with the worst ozone pollution, but the report said the nation's second-largest city also achieved its best overall air quality score of all those years."

But it's also ironic to feign concern because it's generally conservatives that are against more stringent air quality standards.

If it wasn't for things like CARB or pushing for solar, or the loss of manufacturing jobs in Los Angeles (which contribute to pollution, in cases like the Exide plant) then we wouldn't be able to at least breathe, like we are now: https://news.usc.edu/76761/las-envir...ealthier-kids/

Granted there is lip service from limousine liberals, who jumped on the Prius and Tesla bandwagons saying they are "green," but the city of LA is doing what it can to make it a reality. As long as we have one of the biggest ports in the world, more registered cars than anyone in the US (and the reliance on said cars), and the insistence to retain manufacturing jobs, it's going to be tough to become a truly "green" city.

Do you think Automobiles are the only thing that come in to Port of Los Angeles? Tell me, who can afford a Tesla? Sounds like you are blaming everything on Conservatives... I worked for years in the Oil/Petro Chemical and trust me, many companies went OUT OF BUSINESS and jobs were lost in California - not talking refineries by the way. They did everything they could to comply and yet it was not good enough. Quit shifting blame towards Conservatives. They want clean air as well. Lots of blame to go around.

How about we discuss all the "junk" heading out into the ocean coming from the ghettos? Hmm Or let's discuss how they dispose of stuff on city streets...I bet they are all Liberals. Throwing hands up in the air. Holy Moly -

How much are Tesla's? About 80 grand? Yes I know there is a cheaper model but come on...Love my Honda. Thank God we have choices. Solar, hmmm another very expensive "green" - All sounds great until you start talking "how much?"

Let me go point by point:

Do you think Automobiles are the only thing that come in to Port of Los Angeles?
Nope. Don't know how you came to that conclusion.

Tell me, who can afford a Tesla?
Not many. Not sure of the point here.

Sounds like you are blaming everything on Conservatives...
A majority of the time conservatives are pro-business, and being "green" cuts into the bottom line. But I'm not blaming everything on conservatives as much as I'd like to. These are complicated issues and I was offering a generalization directed at the poster who leans conservative.

I worked for years in the Oil/Petro Chemical and trust me, many companies went OUT OF BUSINESS and jobs were lost in California - not talking refineries by the way. They did everything they could to comply and yet it was not good enough.
I don't know what this means, but it looks like you're making my point. Companies that don't comply with green law/legislation should do more than comply or go somewhere else. This is bad for business and possibly jobs, but good for the environment.

Quit shifting blame towards Conservatives. They want clean air as well. Lots of blame to go around. Could have fooled me: Political polarization on support for government spending on environmental protection in the USA, 1974?2012

How about we discuss all the "junk" heading out into the ocean coming from the ghettos? Hmm Or let's discuss how they dispose of stuff on city streets...I bet they are all Liberals. Throwing hands up in the air. Holy Moly - Sure let's discuss this.

How much are Tesla's? About 80 grand? Yes I know there is a cheaper model but come on...Love my Honda. Thank God we have choices. Solar, hmmm another very expensive "green" - All sounds great until you start talking "how much?" Ok, back to cars, I guess. I never said everyone should drive a Tesla. I don't know what your insistence is on quoting me their price. We need electric cars for the future and mass production is the only way to do it. People need to buy them for that to happen. Solar prices have been coming down, even without subsidies. However if it weren't for subsidies the we would be even less green.
