Of course the OP
wants to drive, so I think Burbank is a great choice. The traffic is significantly better in that area than it is on the Westside. It will be hot in Burbank though, as far as studios being more proximate on this side of the Hill, I'm not sure if that is really true anymore, it sounds like a great deal of the studios have relocated to the Valley (though there are certainly a huge amount that remain here in Hollywood, plus a bunch on the Westside).

Sorry, just my experiences. I get around NYC just fine. Westside traffic in LA is ridiculous and to me, unbearable.
