I failed the driving test my first time. So I got 2 more chances at passing it. So I wanted to ask others how many hours of practice should I put in? The typical practice I would do was maybe 1-2 hours around 1-3 times a week. Is that good or bad?

Practice time is relative - entirely depends on if you're practicing what needs improvement.

What did they indicate you needed work on?

If you failed, then maybe it wasn't good enough? I think it also depends on what you failed.

I failed the first time I took the test on the beginning parking & maneuvering skills test (this was before we went out onto the street to drive). It was mostly because I was operating a different car than the one I would drive. Different height, length of the car can affect you much more than you'd think. Hit a couple of cones while maneuvering into parallel. I took the test a week later at the same place and passed.

If there was a specific part of the test you failed or scored lower on, why don't you just practice that?

I completely agree. Make sure you've practiced what is absolutely necessary, otherwise all of that hard work studying will be a big waste of time!

I passed on the first try, so I can't help the OP with this dilemna. Some people have gotten really unlucky and encounter bad luck which causes them to fail the test -- ex. not turning on lights, failing to stop for a bus/firetruck -- which is unfortunate but happens.

Do you have the DMV driving rule book memorized?
